Acetone(Deep Space 9) Sho Bud Live 2017

A one off show put together by the surviving members of Acetone with good friends Jason Yates, Senon Williams (Dengue Fever, Radar Bros) Jim Putnam (Radar Bros), Hope Sandoval, along with Light In The Attic Records help to celebrate the release of the Lp Acetone Anthology.

Here is a fan video of a beautiful part of an emotional night in all sorts of ways. Happiness, sadness, regret, beauty, loss and hope are emotions that did the tour in my personal noodle. It was certainly a night I will never forget.

So many people I love and respect were there but i am sorry for those that could not be there.

A simply scintillating version of one of Acetone's greatest moments! Been amazing to see the activity of this year, the album, the book, culminating in the gig (and it's just so completely "Acetone" that rather than the web being awash with live videos of questionable quality afterwards that this is the one, perfect example - as a very faraway fan I'll admit I kinda like and admire that)....

Thanks for your words. I was torn whether to post those bad qualty videos, but at that time that was all i had to give. Hope to reload all that stuff.
With all the new attention now we are attempting to have a better web presence.
But I personally am technically challenged

Thanks for replying, Steve. I read Hadley Lee Lightcap and it is an amazing, but truly heartbreaking read. There's a great quote therein about finding the 'light' in your music and the book's the same.... only I couldn't. It's so beautifully written by Sam Sweet, so evocative - perhaps that's its failing, its whispered intimacy and unflinching honesty? - it puts you so firmly in the band's shoes that by the end I was unable to bring myself listen to another note of your music. Sure I'll come back to it eventually, it's still a comforting swirl in my head, but, yeah, the book got me so deep....

No bother on the quality of the historic videos you upped before - regardless it's a treat to watch Mark gently let rip (in his kinda flashy but not at all flashy guitar style) especially on 'Barefoot On Sunday'. More referring to the modern trend for a glut of videos of (often terrible quality that follow) an artist's every move. The small clutch of recent shows seem to have been treated with due reverence by fans. Most great bands are a little scarce online but what is out there acts as both a tantalising and satisfying glimpse. That's exactly what makes them all the more precious.

Assume you got the YT, blogspot password, images, etc. thru okay? (a few albums vanished so more reissues pending?) Definitely regretted that undertaking as soon as I closed over the last page of Hadley Lee Lightcap feeling as if I'd blundered all over the emotions of Mark and yourself, treating something so personal and painful by intruding in a flippant and somewhat disrespectful manner. My sincere apologies. I doubt I'd have tackled it knowing what I do now.

(Nothing wrong with feeling technically challenged. As amazing as the web is for interacting, there's something a little sad about thinking folk are stuck indoors toiling with a computer while real life passes them by - time always better spent for sure. Music and musicians really deserve better than how they're (mis)treated by the internet, pressured as they are into reducing their craft to an endless stream of, urg, "content".)

Saw the (vanished) post suggesting there might be something new music-wise. Here's hoping. All the best for 2019!

So, randomly i came back to check bugnoise and read this response. I love what you have said here.
You’re a number 1 fan. Mark and i are playing with Senon and Jay and cataloguing much music with plans on release. We have put a small taste of this new band on an instagram page. Yeh, i know.... just saying it here, i cringe but we are trying to keep the fire alive. The band is The Ecstasy Of Gold. I hope you enjoy. What is out there is outakes of jams but is a nice listen.
Vinyl and bandcamp coming.
Thank you for your dedication,
Steve

Thanks for the kind words, Steve. Been a loooong time since I checked in here too… I was afraid I’d crossed a line, knowing as I do that the story of Acetone is often as delicate as their music – again all thanks to that Sam Sweet - and feared I’d blundered over the mark. I had a 2 and ½ years break from the music post-Hadley, Lee, Lightcap and found that, listening afresh, absence surely does make the heart grow fonder…

I still really struggle with the ethics of uploading records to Youtube – I can’t really go people who congratulate uploaders, even though the Acetone channel has its fair share – but always hoped the page would serve as a nice secluded oasis. Well, as secluded a corner as algorithms and recommended videos and all the platform’s other intrusive crud allows in the vast, rudderless expanse of YT – it’s sad that for most (current) bands that how they are represented online is far beyond their (quality) control. So happy now you’re gatekeeping…

I’ve been listening to both the (unexpected) rough and tumble of The Ecstasy of Gold and the more leisurely ambience of your own Bee Pieces for a while. Dorothy’s on Island Time indeed! Duly purchased them from Bandcamp, thanks. Anything to help. In fact I caught up with a few nice articles on each on Aquarium Drunkard just the other day. Great to hear new music moving forward now that same story of Acetone is kinda put to bed, though the embers burn on… There’s definitely something of a gentle (or at times raucous) hint of Acetone in among TEoG’s fresh rawness, with the lively bouncing bass and keys a welcome addition, bringing something new to the table. (I always enjoyed the Hammond flourishes of York Blvd, though – again all thanks to that Sam Sweet! – I latterly feel a little guilty for liking that record knowing how horrible its gestation was, particularly for yourself.) Glad you’re back in a room just four guys jamming away and having fun – that’s the wonder of simply making music for music’s sake, pulling magic from out of nowhere and just knowing when it clicks….

Of course, I tried to give the pair of them a nudge on the YT comments but they were flagged as spam and never appeared, ha! You’re damned if you do…

Take it easy and please keep the new music coming.

All said, all done and all the best,

Rob

Ah, but of course as with all things Acetone the story doesn't end there....

The lp box is just amazing, almost springing from nowhere - though I had my (Youtube related) suspicions that perhaps something was afoot - and what a truly beautiful thing it is!

I picked it up on Friday (just, those aged muscles straining!) and opened it in the quiet of this morning, so happy and grateful for it... I just keep looking at it, thumbing through the book - that picture of Ritchie like a wolf in the headlights when recording I Guess I Would is everything all at once! - turning over the records in my hands, dazed and amazed that this thing exists at all...

I haven't even listened to a note yet, my ears primed for refreshed takes on those evergreen Acetone classics (and yet more unearthed gems from the vault, thank you). For tomorrow.

It truly is the "mother lode" as Mark says.

"Salut!" indeed...
